Happy Valentine’s Day! .. 10 days til my birthday 🙂
Last Monday I took the day as a rest day & did some stretching & yoga. I needed it! I also did PiYo Core that day. I know it’s important to incorporate strength training as well as running, therefore I’m going to attempt to do a few of those PiYo work outs a week.
Tuesday my Anatomy class was cancelled, so I was able to join my running group for their weekly workout! It was a speed workout, half-mile or mile repeats at your threshold pace. Since I’m coming off of an injury, I wasn’t that concerned with speed, but I did try to go a little bit faster than I normally would. I’m still doing run/walk intervals at this point, & honestly probably will for a little while.. It feels good! It’s a way to conserve my energy & my leg doesn’t bother me as much when I do that. I did 3 miles of half mile & a mile repeat & still ended up with an average pace of 11:45min/mile.. which I was very happy with! 🙂
Thursday was the pub run with the group. A few reps from Brooks were there, & if you tried on a pair of their shoes, they bought you your first beer! It was FREEZING that night. -15 degree windchills. I wore the Brooks Glycerins which felt great! One day when I can afford new shoes, I’ll buy them haha. I did run/walk intervals with the Begin to Win group & did just under 2 miles. It was too cold to do any more than that! Then, I got to hang out with my running friends & eat some good food & drink some good beer 🙂
Friday was my rest day & my day off from work. I did PiYo Strength Intervals & there were a lot of squats involved! I sweat so much doing that, so I know I’m getting a good workout. I went to Aldi also to replenish some fruits & veggies & got some healthy food.. I’m hooked on that store!
Today was my long run. I was scheduled for 5 miles, which was my longest run ever! Before yesterday, I had never run farther than 4 miles.. so I was excited! I woke up & ate half of a pb energy bar & drank some Gatorade. When I left the house, it was snowing like crazy.. the big flakes & there was about a half inch on the ground already. Oh, I forgot to mention how sore I was. Note to self: Never do PiYo the day before a long run. OW. Sooo much ow. Running in the snow is not that fun.. but it makes you feel pretty badass when you’re done. The only thing I hate is having to turn around before my pace group does (since they go farther.. I’m behind due to my injury) & I have to run the rest of the way back by myself. But, I am so thankful I don’t have to run with music anymore. I never thought I’d be able to run without it.. but I actually enjoy it! Maybe that will change when I get into longer runs. The first 2.5 miles was a gradual up-hill, which was brutal! But the only time I stopped was to walk when I had to. Other than that, I kicked that courses ass 🙂 I came home & since it is Valentine’s Day & I am incredibly single, I made a pizza for lunch & am watching sappy movies. That pizza was DELICIOUS. Cheat meal for the week 🙂
Tomorrow I’m thinking of resting, as I am SO sore from today & piyo I have a hard time walking! Ugh 😦 Have a great week!! “A mile is still a mile no matter how slow you go..”
