Hi there! 🙂
Week 1 of December = down! This month is going to fly, I can already tell.
On Tuesday of this week, I met up with the Elite Runners group up at RIDC in Robinson.
The work-out of the evening was a 20 minute tempo/threshold run. I hadn’t ran since the Turkey Trot (seriously slacking, but hoping this December challenge perks me back up) & I wasn’t feeling that great. But, on the plus side – temps were in the 50s. Jenn & I did a half mile warm-up at an 11:22 pace (which has become quite comfortable for me – yay!). My tempo pace according to the Jack Daniel’s VDOT Running Calculator is 11:10. Currently, I have this based upon my Great Race 10k time in September. (Soon I will need to do a new time trial). This 20 minute run was kind of brutal for me. I had trouble getting my breathing under control, & I was so tired. Legs didn’t feel great.. my right leg pain has started to rear it’s ugly head again after last Tuesday’s super steep hill work out. 😦 I am doing all I can to keep it from hindering any of my future runs. For the first mile, I ended up right on pace with 11:08.. & most of the first half of the run was up-hill. Coming back down the hill, I obviously had a quicker pace.. I rounded out the work-out with a total of 10:56. Too fast, as usual.. but I was just happy to be done.
On Thursday, I met up with my two favorite running friends in Carnegie for a short 3 mile run. I love running through Carnegie. The people are so nice & you can easily get 5 or so miles out of that little town.. I just don’t know my way around well enough yet to try & map out a course. It was chilly this night! I finally put new batteries in my knuckle light & wore my Tracer360 vest as I do every night that I run. We even got a compliment on the vest while we were running! I felt that this was a pretty easy run for me.. my heart rate never spiked, I was barely sweating, & I felt like I was just cruising along. So, when I noticed I was pumping out 11:45-11:50/mi I was pretty pleased with that. I also am apparently on Rachel’s “hate you” list now 😉
Sunday was the Trot for Tots 5k where I had been planning & hoping to PR! Let’s just say great things happened 🙂 race recap later this week!
My goal for week 1 of the December Run Challenge was 9. 1 miles.. I ran 8.5. I won’t always hit my goal but 8.5 is better than zero 🙂
Week 2 goal: 7 miles, only because it’s finals week. Yuck. Here’s to week 2!
How did everyone else do this week?
