December Run Challenge – Week 2

December Run Challenge – Week 2 is complete! I wish I could tell you that I had a better running week. 😦 My goal for week 2 was 7 miles. Unfortunately, I only got 3 in.

I spent the first part of the week preparing for my Math final on Wednesday evening, therefore I wasn’t able to join the group for the Tuesday work-out. Now that school is over for the semester & I (hopefully) aced my Math class, I will get a nice month long break. (Editors Note: I Aced my final & finished with an A in the class!)

Thursday I was able to meet up with my favorite gals for a 3 mile run through Carnegie. What a rough run! for all of us! It was in the 50s (talk about this crazy weather in December, am I right?!) but my lungs were burning & I just wasn’t feeling that great. But, we finished the run & that was all that mattered!

After our run, we went for some dinner & brews to talk about our Spring Training schedules.. training begins this Saturday!! I will be out of town for the kick-off run but will be there with everyone in spirit. I know it will be an amazing event.

I was supposed to long run Saturday morning, but I spent the majority of the night awake with terrible back pain & generally feeling under the weather with a scratchy throat & a tight chest. Boooo. 😦 I skipped the run to rest.

I think the resting may have worked, because I woke up yesterday morning feeling slightly better. One of my goals for 2016 is to try new things (specifically fitness related) & one of those things within that goal is to try a spin class. So, starting early, I went to a Beginner spin class @ a local studio. Let me tell you.. there was NOTHING beginner about that class! It was phenomenal & kicked my out of shape ass. Can’t wait to go back tonight πŸ™‚

I would also like to share something personal with you! Currently, I go to community college in an effort to obtain a degree. I may be a couple months away from turning 27, but I just have never found the right area to major in. After my spin class (& maybe we can chalk this up to post work-out endorphins or all the coffee I drank), but I felt hugely motivated to make what I love to do into a career. I posted something motivational (which I do a lot) to my personal Facebook & I got a message from someone I went to high school with. She told me how much of an inspiration I was & that I was a great motivator. I shared with her my ideas of trying to make that into a career. Luckily, she was all about helping me in my research that she found for me a Bachelor of Science w/ a Wellness Specialization at University of Pittsburgh. I plan on meeting with an advisor at my current school, but I would take all of my gen eds at my community college & then potentially transfer into this program. It sounds perfect for me & may be just the thing I can do to turn what I love into a daily thing.. I love motivating & inspiring others & I so badly want to help everyone start & subsequently continue their journey to health & wellness. It is so important these days. I am only human, as we all are, & sometimes we fall off the wagon (like I currently have) but I have so much motivation to better myself & to better others & I would love to take this passion in my life a step further. It will be a long road, but it will be worth it in the end.

    I think that would be a great field for you! its so exciting you are in school. I have thought about getting my Ph. D. for awhile but have never pulled the trigger.

      I wish that I could go back & do it while I didn’t have to work FT or support myself, but have the same mentality I do now. Oh well.. Gotta make it work somehow! What would your Ph.D be in? You should!

    Not doing a challenge so to speak, but set 2 mini goals of 2 workouts outside + at least 12 miles running, and I met both. I’m currently figuring out what I’ll be racing in the spring & what my training schedule will look like. So my new goals are pending, so to speak.

    I’ve never heard of such a major, but it sounds like what you’re aiming for.
