Pittsburgh Half Marathon Training: Week 2

I have many goals for 2016 & I’ve made a point to write them all down. The last half of 2015 was so great for me running wise that I want to make sure it continues!

School starts up in less than two weeks, & once it starts, my entire week will be full & won’t allow me to do a whole lot of what I want. Mondays & Wednesdays will be occupied in class & Tuesdays & Thursdays I have designated to running. Saturdays will be for long runs with the group – therefore Friday & Sunday will be my rest days. I’m hoping to spend Sundays doing some sort of cross training.. spin, or something else that I’ve found to give me some balance.

Monday – Rest

I meant to go to spin class this night but I ended up not feeling well all day so I came home & Netflix’d it.

Tuesday – 3 miles (5×400 @ interval pace)

I met up with the group to do 1/4 repeats at interval pace. I was so not looking forward to this as since I PR’d at Trot for Tots my times completely changed. For 400’s, I needed to be at 2:24. My friend Jenn was meant to go a little bit faster than me, but we decided to stick together. It was FREEZING. I’m not that great at deciding what is appropriate to wear in what temps – but I definitely could have used a light jacket on top of what I was already wearing. The 2:24 took a few tries, but we finally got the hang of it. Sometime I’ll be able to hold that pace for a 1/2 mile, but for right now 1/4 mile is perfect. By the end of the run, I couldn’t feel anything. Ugh – is it spring yet?





Wednesday – Rest / Foam roll

I bought myself a new foam roller & with it came a DVD. The DVD was nothing special, but it did take me through a few areas of the body that needed a good stretch. I don’t do this nearly enough & I know it’s important for me to do it in order to stay injury free.


Thursday – 4 miles

I met up with the group at RIDC & ran with my friend Jenn for 4 miles. RIDC is pretty hilly, but it was still a decent run.. and thankfully much warmer than Tuesday! Afterwards, we met up with everyone at the bar & had a few beers. Love pub runs!




Friday – Rest / Beachbody event

I was lucky enough to be a guest (Thank you Erica!) at Beachbody’s first Super Saturday event of 2016. I have been on the fence for a long time about becoming a Beachbody coach, & Erica was generous enough to let me tag along to see what it’s all about. It was probably one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever gone to. I do a lot of the motivating, the inspiring, but lately, I haven’t been able to feel that inspiration or motivation from anyone else. Beachbody’s CEO, Carl Daikeler was fantastic & I wish I could have been taking notes during his speech. After that night, I had never been so sure of my future career as a health coach. I truly believe it’s what I’m meant to do. Whether or not I decide to be Beachbody coach is still TBD. After everyone spoke, we were led in an hour long workout mashup of insanity, p90x, piyo & cize! It was awesome & totally kicked my ass.




Saturday – Long run, 5 miles

This was an unofficial group run as today is the Frigid 5 race. We had a good turnout! I ran with Rachel & Sara – I totally missed my running buddies over my 1 month hiatus. We started at 8am & it was cold.. the trail was covered in ice. We walked a few spots & definitely had to watch our footing in most places. I got some really beautiful pictures though! By the end of the run, it had really warmed up & the ice had started to melt. What a difference a half hour to an hour makes!






How else did everyone’s week go? This was the first week I got all of my miles in. I’m so happy to be back in the swing of things. 🙂

    My legs told me this weekend that I really need to become better friends with my foam roller. I seriously have 3 things to roll with (R8, foam roller, lacrosse ball) so I could easily do stuff on my couch and I’m still too lazy. Maybe I should hop off the internet and do that now…

      My legs are killing me after the beachbody live workout then my 5 mile run. Need my foam roller, stat! Hope you got to rolling!
