Pittsburgh Half Marathon Training – Week 3

The beginning of Week 3 was met with freezing temps & some bad weather.. but by the end, it ended up being a great week.

Monday – Rest

Tuesday – The work-out with the group was meant to be a 1 mile tempo run, then 200m repetition repeats. I had 3-4 miles on the schedule this day.ย I was actually looking forward to this speedwork, even though it was SO cold & it had been snowing most of the day. Alas, group got cancelled so I ended up getting home safely & did about a half hour of PiYo Sweat. PiYo is no joke.

Wednesday – For the first time ever, I got up before work & headed downtown to Gold’s Gym. I didn’t get the timing down right, but I at least did 2 miles on the dreadmill.

Thursday – I always look forward to Thursdays. I got in 4 miles around Carnegie with my favorite running friends. It was light, easy & fun, & I’m pretty sure we laughed the whole way. The temps were in the high 30s & we were LOVING it. You know you’re a runner when you get excited about 37 degree temps.. ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday – Rest

Saturday – Long run! When I left my house, it didn’t seem that bad out. It was drizzling a little bit, so I was glad I brought a light jacket with me. Once I got to the Southside, the wind was WICKED & it was freezing. I was regretting not bringing my buff or gloves with me. But, once we got started I warmed up & even thought I was too warm for most of the run. I got 6 miles in & it was great! Love running with my group more than anythingย & I’m so glad to be back spending my Saturday mornings with them.

Sunday – Today I have plans to do some yoga. My body needs some good stretching & I would really like to work on my balance!

Week 3 was a success! How did everyone else’s training week go? I know the weather sucks (at least in Pittsburgh) but if you got out there, that is a huge accomplishment!!

Nice job this week! I live in Northeastern PA and the week did start out cold and snowy!!! I did my track WO on the treadmill because I was sick of fighting the elements. You are going to be so ready for the half! Have a great week!

Aww, I run with the 12 min group.. Definitely say hi next time! I agree. I’d never get my long runs in without the group.

I had to laugh at your comment about 37 degrees – I remember seeing that in our forecast a couple times over the last few weeks and thinking how WARM that would be! You’re so right that half the battle is just getting out there and doing SOMETHING. Winter really forces us to be flexible, and I think we learn a lot more from having to adapt to the curveballs thrown our way in training than we ever would if everything went perfectly and we followed our training plans 100%. Great week – you seem so happy out there!

It’s so funny that we think that way about temps ๐Ÿ™‚ I think this weekend I’m going to be forced to be flexible.. Lots of snow headed our way! And thank you, I am really happy out there ๐Ÿ™‚
