Buffalo Creek Half Training – Week 5

training recap

Ohh, this week was (so not) fun. But kind of fun towards the end.

Running days: 1

Strength days: 2

Total miles: 6 miles running + 4 miles hiking = 10 miles

MONDAY – REST

My friend Rachel invited me out to the Pirates game after work, so I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get a work out in. I met her at her house & it turns out the game plans fell through which actually turned out to not be a bad thing. We ended up at Industry Public House in Robinson for dinner & it was a gorgeous evening – weather, the view, the food, the beer, girl talk! It was much needed after an emotional day.

TUESDAY – REST

I actually ended up not feeling great at all on Tuesday. On my way home from work I was pretty nauseous & really just wanted to come home & lay down. So, that’s what I did. I started binge watching Parenthood & I’m enjoying it so far. Lauren Graham is one of my favorites.

WEDNESDAY – ZUMBA + BODY PUMP

I have been wanting to break up my fitness routine so I decided to check out the Zumba class at my gym after work. I haven’t taken a zumba class in YEARS & I was really looking forward to taking one again. I love to dance & I love latin music so it’s a really fun way to break a sweat. My class was only 3 people big! Oh man, so intense – but I tried to remind myself no one is looking at me. They’re more worried about what they look like than what you do. Class was great & the instructor was very nice. There was another girl in class that was great – she actually talked me into joining her for Body Pump which started right after Zumba. I was hesitant, but I have been wanting to try Body Pump for a while & this was a great excuse & she told me she would show me how to set everything up, so I agreed to stay. Holy man. This was a TOUGH class. I didn’t even use a lot of weight but wow. I knew I was going to be sore. So – to recap this day. 1 hour of Zumba, 1 hour of Body Pump. It was a great day!

THURSDAY – REST

I am very aware I was supposed to run on Thursday. To be completely 100% honest with you guys, I have not been feeling well this week. I haven’t been sleeping & I’ve been eating like crap. This is probably why I haven’t been feeling well. I wanted to go walk to try & stretch out my sore muscles, but I ended up just laying on the couch. Not my finest moment.

FRIDAY – NADA

Again with the not feeling well – at all. I’m also WAY more sore today than I was the day before. I slept terribly on Thursday evening & I was just overall pretty miserable. I worked a half day & bought new running shoes! Brooks Glycerin 14’s & I love them 🙂

SATURDAY – 6 MILES

This week Pro Bike + Run’s scheduled long run was at North Park. We all started at the skating rink & did the lake loop counter clockwise, which I highly prefer since it seems to be less challenging. We ran the lake loop clockwise for the Two Face 10k race which definitely seems to be hillier. I swear it was the most gorgeous morning for a run. The humidity hadn’t really picked up at all, the sun was still behind the clouds, & there was a nice breeze. There were only a few of us in the 12 minute pace group, so we actually ended up getting split up at one point & I ran the loop alone. I wore my new shoes & I swear nothing is better than your first run in a brand new pair of shoes. Everything felt great. I was happy to feel like I finally had a good run – probably my first comfortable one all summer. In the evening, I went to the Florida Georgia Line concert – while the concert itself was good, I do not enjoy that venue & had a pretty bad experience. Not sure if I’ll ever go back to this venue unless I buy an actual seat. No more lawn for this gal.

SUNDAY – 4 MILE HIKE

I was really excited for this day to come – my running coach Matt & I organized a group hike out at McConnells Mills. It was a beautiful day & I will be sharing it in a different post since I took a bunch of pictures I’d like to put up! It was so nice hanging out with people I don’t necessarily hang out with on a regular basis & just have a great time.

How did your week go? Did you have any fun plans this week? Have you ever gone to a concert where the other patrons spoiled the entire experience for you?

I’ve been wanting to do a post about it since it helped me, but my sleep is so much better using the Olly Restful Sleep vitamins. Gretchen recommended them, and you can get them at Target. All natural and I don’t wake up in the middle of the night anymore and wake up feeling very rested.

I’m all team clockwise for the lake loop. Counter clockwise feels so much harder. Maybe it’s because I always go clockwise so I’m used to it. I usually park over by the field, so I hit the big hill by the boathouse halfway through, so I’m warmed up, but not exhausted yet.

    And #nature #woods #hiking & stuff. Haha
