Weekend Recap + 10 years since HS

Monday, Monday… especially a Monday after a holiday? Cruel form of torture! But now I can officially start prepping for the Christmas holiday with decorating my tree (that’s a total lie.. those who know me know I’ve had my tree up since last Christmas), picking my favorite holiday tunes & finishing up Christmas shopping for my fam. How do you start the holiday season?

I have a big recap for you today! So, bear with me – it will probably be a long one!

Thursday was Thanksgiving & I always do a Turkey Trot.. my 3rd year in a row! This year, I chose to do a race in Sewickley & it was a great race. Keep an eye out for my recap on Wednesday this week! After the race, I hopped in the car & drove to my Dad’s in Rockville, MD. I always love going down there because I know I’m always going to have a great time, laugh a ton, & eat some amazing home cooked food. Dad smoked the turkey on his new pellet grille & it was ahhhmazing. Probably the best tasting turkey I’ve ever had. Way to go Daddy! Thursday evening the Steelers play & it was a GREAT game! Finally pulled out a win which was so needed.

Friday morning after breakfast I said goodbye to my parents & headed up to Mechanicsburg because it was HIGH SCHOOL REUNION DAY! I feel like I’ve been preparing & anxiously waiting for this day for months! Another classmate & I planned it & we were anxious to see how everything was going to go.. but we were excited. Before that, I saw my BFF Alyssa & we did some shopping (Kohls was NUTS) & I even got to see my friend Karen & her girls in the parking lot which was so great.

I checked into my hotel around 2pm & started getting ready since I had to be at the venue by 4pm to start setting up. I loved the dress I picked. $25 at Charlotte Russe! STEAL! I absolutely plan to re-wear it for NYE. No shame.

I took an Uber down to the venue, which was at a place called Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg. Perfect place for an event like ours. Abbey, my classmate, did such an amazing job putting ideas into real life. The centerpieces were amazing, the photobooth props were adorable, & everything came together so well.

Everyone started showing up around 6 & everything was perfect. I had an incredible night with old friends & it was like most of us never skipped a beat. I partied (a little too hard…) until well past my bedtime & was able to easily take an Uber back to my hotel room.

Saturday morning my friend Rachael stopped by my hotel but I was so sick that I had to kick her out of my room. Ugh. I realized I didn’t get to eat a single thing at the reunion – it kind of felt like a wedding – so many people to talk to, so little time! And I kind of just forgot to eat. Oops. Rookie mistake!! I got on the road back to Pittsburgh around 11am.

I was feeling a little emotional on the drive home, so I called my Mom. After telling her I was feeling sad, tears came to my eyes completely unexpectedly. My heart hurt once I realized again that that part of my life is over. I will never be able to return to the stage of my life that was high school. Reuniting with everyone made me nostalgic for being that young & for having those friends around me on a daily basis. She told me that she understood & that we just have different friends at different stages in our lives.

I didn’t even particularly enjoy high school. But the people I met there will always stay with me. It reminded me how the people I met there will always be really special to me. I spent a lot of the time telling people how much I missed them, & I really meant it. Planning my reunion really brought up some old feelings & I definitely spent the majority of the night expressing those feelings.

I was just so happy to see everyone. We are all in different parts of our lives. A lot of my class is married with kids, or with kids on the way, & some of them are like me… working & working hard towards a dream of theirs. But coming together for one reason, to remember our lives 10 years ago, made me understand that we never really change. I am just a better version of my 18 year old self. I will always miss that part of my life… but things change & we get older & we move on & make new memories with new people. But LDHS 2007 will always be a part of me.

Saturday evening my friend Nick & I went to the Pens hockey game! I really thought I would be seeing my first loss but the Pens had OTHER PLANS!! It was amazing to see them win in a shootout. What an incredible game!

Sunday was spent grocery shopping (I’m making pasta salad for lunches this week!), meal prepping, studying for Math (only a few weeks left in the semester!!!!!) & watching Gilmore Girls. Stars Hollow hasn’t changed πŸ™‚

OKAY ya’ll  – thanks so much for sticking through to the end of this – it was a long weekend & I had a lot I wanted to talk about, especially my 10 year class reunion.

How was your weekend? Have you gone to any of your class reunions? How was your Thanksgiving?

I’m linking up with Holly for Weekly recap

Congrats on your 10 year reunion (are we supposed to congratulate for that?) I had my 20th this year and can’t believe how fast time flies! You look amazing in that dress and glad you had a great time!

That dress IS a steal. And so perfect for ANY party this time of year.

Our class had an unofficial 5 year reunion a few years back, but they did it on the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving, so I couldn’t go. I would say 75% of my class still just bumbles around our hometown, half doing something with their lives, half just chillaxing in their parents basement. So I’m intrigued to go back & catch-up. I mean, I literally talk to ONE person I went to HS with, but 10 years will be interesting. We’ve promised each other we’ll go.

What a crazy time for a high school reunion… glad you made it. I get the emotions of it. It brings back such memories of being young. You looked AMAZING too.
Good for you doing the Turkey Trot. It’s become a Thanksgiving favorite for me now to do that.

We actually planned it on that date for a reason! Hoping everyone would be home around that time. And thank you so much!! Turkey Trots will always be a tradition now.. it’s so great!

I love that dress! Gorgeous, and what a steal! Glad that all your planning for your reunion paid off. Looks like it was a lot of fun!

Your Dad’s new grill is very impressive. I bet that was a tasty turkey. Congratulations on a successful reunion. I ended up graduating early so never felt a part of my “class” and did not attended any reunions. Sounds pretty sad… but seriously I didn’t miss anything. You scored a great dress at a fabulous price. Thanks for linking, Ciara!
