Weekend Recap – Under the Weather

Happy Monday all! Last full week before holiday breaks πŸ™‚ Can’t come soon enough!

On Wednesday, I ended up coming down with tonsillitis – never fun, obviously. I even wore an awesome holiday sweater dress to work so I could ensure I’d be best dressed at my department holiday party but I didn’t even make it! (I’m wearing it again to my friend’s Ugly Xmas sweater party this weekend, so I’ll be sure to post pictures of it then!)

I ended up leaving work early on Friday & came home & slept the rest of the evening. Nothing exciting there.

Saturday was the ALS Association’s holiday luncheon & I was so looking forward to that. For those that don’t know, I ran the Pittsburgh Half Marathon this past May for the ALS Association & raised almost $1,300. I’m running Pittsburgh 2017 again for them & I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of their organization. If you’d like to read about why I run for ALS, you can read here: Run for a Reason – Pittsburgh Half Marathon

Lunch was amazing (so. much. food.) & I got to hear some really amazing people speak & see them win awards for being important advocates for a cure. Tears were shed by the entire room for sure. I got to see my sweet friend, Christy who I connected with during training last year. We ended up being from the same hometown so we bonded immediately! I’m so glad even though she moved back home that she is still such a vital part of everything.

Sunday was the Trot for Tots 5k. Unfortunately, on Wednesday, you won’t be getting a race recap because I decided to take a DNS. I still wasn’t feeling well & going out there & running was just a bad idea. Knowing I’d never miss out on this race – I volunteered to help with registration & got to see my 2 girlfriends win place medals! It was a snowy one for sure.

Katie coming in for first overall female!

After medals & such, Jessie, Katie & I headed to Central Diner so we could catch up a little. We have so many fun events in the works coming up & we were all excited to talk about them! We’re thinking about a redemption 5k for the three of us, so stay tuned for that!

They ran, I didn’t. I opted for the healthy route πŸ™‚ But their food looked ahhhmazing.

Sunday afternoon was spent writing this blog post & studying for finals! And watching the Steelers game, of course! Nothing like a snowy, cold Sunday with the Steelers on & the Christmas tree lit up. Always feels so festive to me!

Thank you so much for telling me your holiday traditions on my last post! It was so fun to see what everyone does – even if you don’t have traditions but you just spend it with your family is just as special.

How was your weekend? Did you get any snow in your area? Snow: love it or hate it?

Have a great week everyone!

So sorry about the tonsilitis — what a literal pain. I was supposed to have my tonsils out as a kid, but they discovered I had such a massive UTI they couldn’t operate. And so I still have my tonsils at 54.

Hate snow. And yes, we got some today (the northeast).

Yeah, the snow was gross. But the freezing rain at my house last night was worse. But I did watch the neighbor out the window as he tried to get up the driveway. He almost hit 2 light-up reindeer in the front yard, one blow up snow globe & the neighbors car before he finally made it out of the driveway. And probably used a half tank of gas in the process.

So, yeah, I pretty much showered, plopped my ass on the couch and blogged the night away. Oh, and did some meal prep, because FOOOOOD.

Oh girl… I am feeling your pain right now.
I’m impressed you still went out to help volunteer at the race. Proud of you being smart & not running.
& yesssss – send me the tea recipe!!!… the hubs just called & is heading home sick today. It’s just EVERYWHERE right now.

This sounds like a great event and for a great cause too! You alone raised $1,300 that is amazing, I ran for St. Jude and had a $650 I did end up raising over $700 but it was kind of hard getting people to commit!
Humm to answer your Snow question: I love seeing it and getting “snow days” cause give us 1″ in Mississippi and we all go nuts!

I’m sorry you developed tonsillitis and had to miss the 5k! What a snowy race too! It was very sweet you helped out even though you weren’t feeling well. Congratulations on your fund raising on behalf of ALS for the 2016 Pittsburg Half. I have no doubt you will surpass that in 2017. Thanks for linking, Ciara.
