Rock ‘n Roll Raleigh Half Training – Week 6

This week was so-so. School took priority & I was having some calf pain, so I took it easier.

Sunday – I headed to the Montour Trail to run with Amy. I haven’t ran there in a while! I’m so glad it wasn’t as chilly as the day before. We ran 3 miles. I also downloaded the Nuun watch face for my Vivoactive & I’m liking the different look!


Monday – I had planned on going to EFX as always, but I woke up with a pulled neck muscle. Even though I was still planning on going regardless of that, I had a huge Anatomy quiz the next evening & I needed to study. I had to memorize 41 arteries in the body & where they’re located. I’m not sure if I’ve said this before on here or not, but school is my top priority. If I need to study, my training needs to fall to the wayside. I will have plenty of my lifetime to run, but making good grades is very important to me. Therefore, EFX was skipped.

Tuesday + Wednesday – class

Wednesday since I was working from home, I took my car to the shop to get my inspection done. Once it was done, I ran the mile there to pick it up as an easy way to get some exercise in. After work, I did another mile around my neighborhood before I had to head to class.

Thursday – Rest day

Friday – Rest day

Saturday – I had a big day Saturday – I ran 6.4 miles with Pro Bike + Run. It was 6.4 miles of suck. Of course it had nothing to do with the group! But I was having some calf pain earlier in the week so I was nervous about how hilly the route was since we were leaving from Schenley Oval. I ended up being the leader of our smaller group & I didn’t get anyone lost! Always a win. The route was hilly, icy in a lot of places, & there wasn’t a water stop until almost 5 miles in. I was regretting not bringing water – but that’s alright. We went from about 4 inches of snow on Thursday, 20 degree weather on Friday, to in the 50’s on Saturday. I for sure overdressed! PA weather is SO goofy. We’re all gonna end up with pneumonia, I know it!

After the group run, I had a hair appointment. I was so excited to change it up! I have been getting blonde highlights my whole life, so I was ready for something different. I went with deep red highlights & I LOVE it! A little darker was such a great choice.

My hair appointment took a couple of hours & by the time I got home all I had was about an hour to bumble around the house & get ready for my dinner plans. I haven’t seen my friend Kristine in a long time (we can’t even remember when we saw each other last) & we were so excited to catch up! She is having her first baby in April & I for sure wanted to see her before the baby comes. We had dinner at The Yard in Shadyside & it was delicious. They’re famous for their gourmet grilled cheeses & I wasn’t disappointed. I had the “Frank the Tank” & it had buffalo chicken dip on it. AMAZING! I got tots (because, duh) & while I don’t normally like tomato soup, theirs was great.

We ended up splitting dessert. It was fried with Nutella, peanut butter & marshmallow in the middle. Again… amazing. Thank God I had some more miles planned on Sunday!

My Saturday was really great & it was a great way to end my week.

    Well, this week was my last week before official training starts. I ran 5 miles on Saturday, but then Mr. Sass wanted to run after our class, so I ran ANOTHER 5 miles. For a total of TEN miles on Saturday. Which, considering my training plan has my long run next week at 5 miles, I think I’m ready…

    GIRRRLLLLL – I have a pulled neck/upper back/shoulder pull right now that is killing me. What is that about?!?!?!

    I have to ask – do you like that watch? I’m looking for a new tracker & hear a lot of people talk about their Garmin. Recommend?

    While I usually love the group runs, I’m glad I made other plans and skipped that run! I’ll be there this Saturday though. Oh, and I saw your hair pic on IG–LOVE it, both color and cut!

    I didn’t even know putting toppings on a grilled cheese was a thing! But wow — yummy! I’m such a fan of sour cream. Surely that’s good on one??? I love your new hairstyle.
