When You’re Doubting Yourself

Ohhhh, self-doubt. It has the potential of holding us back from things that we really want to do, like following our dreams.  Maybe someone, or more than one person told you that you couldn’t do it (They’re Wrong). Or maybe you feel inexperienced, or that you’ll never be knowledgeable enough to be successful.

Let me let you in on a little secret: you’re lying to yourself. But – nothing is ever going to happen for you if you don’t make it happen. I used to sit at home & pin fitness/weight loss pins on my Pinterest for HOURS thinking that if I pinned enough that I would magically lose 20 lbs & become this fit chick. But I never got off the couch.

Until one day I did. For the most part, I’ve never looked back. I realized you have to be pro-active. You have to be an advocate for your own life. Take control & make your life better.

From my experience, when I’m doubting yourself it’s really because I’m scared of what’s about to come next. I’m afraid of jumping & there not being a ground below to catch me. I’m afraid of attempting to accomplish my goals & failing. What’s worse than that?

What’s worse than that is not giving it a shot at all.

Here’s some tips when you’re doubting yourself:

  1. Say STOP. A lot of us struggle with controlling our own mind & thoughts, but when self-doubt creeps in, tell yourself to immediately stop the negativity. Instead, turn the inner monologue around. Tell yourself you CAN.
  2. Talk to someone. I met Sara for dinner last night & I spilled all of my nervousness & fear to her. She was able to give me tips, tricks, & a lot of knowledge & resources to settle my mind.
  3. Get some motivation. One of my favorite things to do is find motivational speeches on YouTube. Even if they’re short, they can really pump you up & make a difference in your mood. I also like to read a lot of personal development stories. Who better to show you it can be done than by those who have done it so well themselves?
  4. Setbacks are temporary. Even if you’ve given your dream a shot – & maybe it didn’t go the way you hoped – that doesn’t mean you failed. A setback is not a failure. My first go at being a health & fitness coach is not going to be perfect. It’s honestly probably going to be pretty sloppy, but that’s the beauty of life.. we can learn from our mistakes & know that tomorrow is another day to get it right.

Self-doubt is human & normal. But let’s not make it a regular occurence. Know your worth. Know that you are capable of anything if you put the time, effort, & hard work into it. Your biggest dream will not come easy.

    Love that first quote – and it’s so pretty too with that watercolor.

    Working towards goals can be such a scary thing, especially because so many times putting in hard work doesn’t necessarily mean getting the results you want. But not trying is way worse than failing. Because in the meantime you’ve changed yourself, and your mindset, and are surely better off as a result.
